Packaging in Tyrolean style
Just as we pay attention to sustainable fibres and short delivery routes in production, the same applies to the packaging of our products. Packaging serves to protect our products, simplifies storage and transport, and, in particular, our hang tags often contain legal requirements and information about our parts. Packaging is therefore an important component, and it is essential to produce it as sustainably and environmentally friendly as possible. Since 2017, we have been using a plastic-free and sustainable packaging solution made from recycled waste paper. In order to keep delivery routes for packaging as short as possible, we use the two types of waste paper available in Turkey.
Old boxes have charm
We try to reuse all boxes that arrive undamaged from our production facility.
Frequently Asked Questions
Our main textile production is located in Turkey. To be precise, west of the Bosporus, so geographically speaking, Europe. We have been working closely with our local partners for more than 20 years, building up and developing our production with them. This is the only way we can meet our high quality standards. The necessary fabrics and fibres come from renowned manufacturers in Turkey, Austria and Italy. In recent years, other manufacturers in the EU (Croatia, Italy, Poland and Slovenia) have joined us, specialising in specific products in our collection.
Not 100%, some of our hats and some of the warmer items in our collection are made of wool. In general, however, we try to avoid animal-based materials. If you want to be on the safe side, you can check the exact composition in each product description. All leather patches you find on our clothing are made of faux leather and are therefore also vegan.
Unfortunately, sustainability is a term that is used far too often and inaccurately. For us, it goes without saying that we treat people and the environment fairly. We prefer to describe what we do as “business with common sense”.
Our materials are carefully selected, from the fibres to the dyes used. We rely particularly on natural and ecologically efficient fibres such as TENCEL™ (Modal and Lyocell) from Austria. Thanks to modern production facilities, we are able to further reduce water consumption and the use of chemicals.
In addition, short transport routes are very important to us. Most of the materials we use come from Turkey itself or from Europe. This protects both the environment and our nerves. Since we take care of production in Turkey ourselves, we are also very flexible. We can quickly visit our seamstresses, laundry workers, printers, dyers, etc. Of course, we cannot look over everyone’s shoulder, but we select our suppliers and producers very carefully.
Due to the difficulty of traceability, we do not use cotton certified as “organic”. There is far more demand for this type of cotton than is actually produced globally. The many organic certificates and labels do not change this. As long as we cannot say with a clear conscience that our cotton fabrics are truly 100% organic, we will steer clear of them. Nevertheless, we are striving to move towards certified organic cotton, as the production of conventional cotton requires the use of enormous amounts of chemicals. So far, we use TENCEL™ (Modal and Lyocell) in many of our products in combination with certified high-quality cotton from trusted suppliers.

Yes. Since we do not produce food that can spoil or leak, 99% of our clothes are protected in waste paper packaging. However, paper packaging does have one small disadvantage – it does not protect the products from moisture. To ensure safe arrival at Chillaz headquarters and retailers, our products are additionally wrapped in a large plastic bag inside the cardboard boxes to protect the goods. Here, too, we are already working on other, more sustainable solutions.

All packaging that is directly on the product, which arrives at our retailers’ stores and ultimately ends up at your home, is made from recycled waste paper. This means that everything can be disposed of in the waste paper bin. Only during transport from our production facility to the Chillaz headquarters is a large plastic bag used inside the cardboard box to protect our products from moisture or other influences during the journey. But we are already looking for other solutions here too.
If something is wrong with one of our parts, we apologise and ask you to contact the retailer where you purchased the part. They will look into your case and contact us if necessary. If your purchase was made some time ago and you need a repair, please write to us at service@chillaz.com and we will look into how we can help you.
