Environmentally friendly fibres

We want to avoid long delivery routes, not only from production to Chillaz headquarters, but also for the distances our fibres travel. That’s why we source our fibres almost exclusively from Europe. But of course, we don’t just pay attention to the kilometres our materials travel, we also make sure to use recycled materials to conserve resources and consider animal welfare when using wool. The most important thing for Chillaz is to protect nature and all its inhabitants and to treat them with respect.

Modal and Lyocell from TENCEL™

TENCEL™ is a brand that produces Lyocell and Modal fibres. These are artificially produced fibres made from cellulose, a raw material that can be produced from waste from the wood and paper industry and therefore does not require large areas of agricultural land to be produced. Compared to viscose production, Lyocell is a more environmentally friendly alternative as it requires fewer chemicals and less water to manufacture. TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres have the ability to absorb moisture and ensure a comfortable feel, while the silky touch of TENCEL™ Modal fibres is gentle on the skin and enhances the softness of the fabrics.

Lycra®

Lycra® fibres ensure lasting comfort. A high-quality elastomer fibre that is significantly more robust and therefore more durable than other elastane fibres. Fabrics containing Lycra® fibres ensure durable clothing that moves with the body and retains its fit even after repeated wear and washing.

Cotton

The world’s best-known fibre, not without controversy in terms of certain cultivation methods. However, when cotton is cultivated in suitable areas with appropriate crop rotation, it is a fibre with excellent properties for textile use. From a wide variety of possible colours and a comfortable feel to good fibre properties in terms of fineness and robustness, cotton offers a very good all-round package.

Products that last a long time

Sustainability in the textile industry involves many factors. In addition to production that is as sustainable as possible, short supply chains and the use of environmentally friendly fibres, it is important that clothing becomes more durable and is used for longer. Buy less, wear longer – developing clothing that is durable, repairable and easy to care for is a prerequisite for counteracting the trend of “fast fashion”. The production of textiles always generates CO2 emissions. The only way to reduce emissions is to produce less. With only two collections per year, we already keep our footprint smaller than brands that launch between 12 and 24 collections per year. At the same time, we develop fibre combinations that don’t lose their nerve on the roughest rocks and remain a reliable companion for sports and everyday life.

Polyester/Polyamide

Synthetic fibres are now an indispensable part of the clothing industry. These fibres achieve values that cannot be achieved with natural fibres, particularly in terms of moisture transport and abrasion resistance. As these fibres are not easily biodegradable, we take care to use them only where it makes sense to do so, in order to make the garment more robust and comfortable and to extend the product life cycle.

Wool

Recycled wool is a great way to protect nature and animals in textile production. The recycled wool fabric is sorted by colour and mechanically broken down into its individual parts. The wool fibres are then spun back into yarn and can be reprocessed in production. A major advantage of recycled wool is that the fabrics do not need to be dyed, as the wool has already been sorted. This results in a wide variety of colours in the pieces, which gives each collection its own unique charm. By using recycled wool, no animals have to shed their fur again, and the energy required for colour sorting is not too high, which keeps the carbon footprint small.
